Street work Quilting 3.
Street work quilting. 2.
I've prepared the bobbins... lots of them.....I'm using several colors of grey.
More illustrations of quilting.. It makes it easier to work the designs out on paper prior to stitching it.
I'm trying to achieve an urban effect.
Similar to the ambience of the video. I think you can see where the ideas come from.
The hand quilting is a thick flax thread and since taking these photos I've added red tapestry wool.
Street work quilting.
This is the back of the quilt.
I have a large stash and I never buy fabric for a quilt back, I like to use the fabric I have stored away.
The apple and newspaper piece was a wonderful cotton table cloth I picked up at an Antique Mall in the US. Its vintage, but I'm not precious about cutting it up... It looks surprising and I love it.
I audition my quilting and its a wonderful reference to have a scrap book of quilting lines.
This illustration represents the dark fabric in the centre of the quilt....
(Of course I do begin quilting right in the centre and radiate out)...so here it is.
So for the quilting.
I'm using this foot, Janome Converible free motion foot. The open toed shank is best for this project.
I'm stopping to do the hand quilting as I go.
Street work
The quilt top is ready to prepare for quilting.
It looks a little messy right now, but the quilting is planned and the shading of the various pieces of fabric will be quite subtle. It will serve as the background for the quilting.
I will use quite a few shades of grey. 50 weight Superior Masterpiece.
Most of the quilt will be "Illustrative Quilting"I want it to look as if I'm scribbling with pencil... no feathers, no fans.... no "fill in" quilting... I'm going to use the fabulous freemotion foot on the 7700 Janome.
In previous posts I've shared with you the illustrations that will be Ghost quilted into the piece.
The back will be pieced with various shades and textures anf black and grey.... and probably one piece of red fabric....
This is my tag.. PKH... so if you see it anywhere, it's not necessarily me... but someone copying it...!!!!!
It's going to be 42 degrees today....(108) I have the aircon cranked in the studio and the pool looks sooo inviting..

ReplyDeleteI would like your permission to use a pic of the 3 young men... I belong to the HGTV quilting message board, and am planning a retreat in Branson Missouri USA next year ... right now I am having a countdown for the days until the registration starts, and I'm posting a "number" picture each day... today is day 10, so I put up 10 buttons ... I would like your permission to use your beautiful quilt for day 3 ... and I will be HAPPY to link it back to your blog.
Thank you for your consideration, and I'm bookmarking your blog so I can continue to be fed your wonderful eye candy! :)
